Pilkington and St Helens
EAZ.. Working together!
We are proud to welcome
world leader Pilkington as a
major partner supporting
EAZ schools. Pilkington has a
long and proud tradition of
working in the community
and throughout its global
operation, plays a
responsible and responsive
role in the localities in which
it operates.
Within the UK, Pilkington as
a founder member of
“Business in the Community”
has utilised the time and
skills of its employees to
help school pupils to improve
reading skills, pairing
managers and school heads
to share problems, swap
ideas and provide mutual
support and assist school
pupils prepare for the
world of work.
Since September, this work
has reached a new peak
through a highly successful
partnership between EAZ and
Pilkington. “E-Pals” has been
an instant hit with some
40 Pilkington employees
signed up to become pen
pals to primary pupils in their
ICT lessons via e-mail.
Encouraging interest and
confidence, as well as literacy
and ICT skills, pupils have
the chance to hear of a
Pilkington manager’s visit to
Moscow or working life at
Pilkington headquarters!
Additionally, we will be rolling
out a range of Pilkington
supported programmes
including “Right to Read”
where volunteers spend an
hour a week in school,
“Partners in Leadership”
sharing with school leaders,
offering recruitment and
employment guidance.
The latter offers great
scope across the variety of
Pilkington sites and also the
HQ site itself that
accommodates a range of
European companies giving
access to a wide variety
and rich resource of
international personnel.
